Description/Blazon
A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 5/32 inches (2.94 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Azure, on a canton Argent a chevron and a fleur-de-lis of the first.  Attached below and to the sides of the shield is a Blue scroll inscribed "NUNQUAM NON PARATUS" in Silver letters.

Symbolism
Blue and white are the colors used for the Infantry.  The canton, charged with the chevron from the arms of the 184th Infantry and the fleur-de-lis from the arms of the 160th Infantry, indicates descent from those organizations.  The motto translates to "Never Unprepared."

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 13 July 1930.

That for the regiments and separate battalions of the California Army National Guard:  On a wreath of the colors Argent and Azure, the setting sun behind a grizzly bear passant on a grassy field, all Proper.
